Database plays a vital role in modern life of technology. Large scale applications such as social media, E-commerce platforms generate a really big amount of data that needs to be stored and worked with properly. And it is important to get efficient performance from database management systems that are used for this purpose. So, in this thesis, we compared the performance between a Relational database management system (RDMS) and a Non-relational database management system. We used PostgreSQL as a relational database and MongoDB as a Non-relational database in JavaScript server side platform. And we generated a large amount of records with different numbers using JavaScript functionalities that needs to be processed and stored for scalable and optimized performance. Then, we performed select, update, delete, insert operations in different level of complexities in both the databases. Finally, we analyzed and compared the performance using statistical ANOVA process of these two databases. From our experiment in big data application, the update, delete and select operation was faster in PostgreSQL database and insert operation was faster in MongoDB database.en_US
