Content Policy
Content accepted in Brac University Institutional Repository:

  • The work must be produced, submitted, or sponsored by Brac University faculties, students and Brac staff.
  • The collection or works to be submitted must have the written approval of the Chairperson, School Director, or Research Center Director.
  • The work must be education, research, or service oriented.
  • The work must be in digital form.
  • The work must be complete and ready for input into the Brac University Library Institutional Repository
  • The author/owner must be willing and able to grant the University of Brac Library the right to preserve and distribute the work via the Brac University Institutional Repository
  • If the work is part of a series, other works in that series should also be contributed so that the University Institutional Repository can offer as full a set as possible
  • The required fields must be input with each submission (such as title, author, subject/key words) along with the content.
  • The Brac University Institutional Repository uses DSpace software which fully supports many common application file types (such as MARC, Adobe PDF and Postscript) and image files (such as TIFF, JPEG, GIF and PNG) and text files [including HTML, TXT (text), DAT (data: ASCII data), RTF (rich text format), and XML]. Audio formats AIFF, AIF, and AIFC are also supported.

Community Policy

A "Community" in the Brac University Institutional Repository is an administrative unit defined as a University of Brac Academic Department, School, or Research Center. Written approval of the Academic Department Chair, School Director, or Research Center Director is required for inclusion of materials from that community in the Brac University Library Institutional Repository. In addition:


  • Each community (Academic Department, School, Research Center) must be able to assign a coordinator who can work with Library staff.
  • Groups of faculty or staff wishing to establish a community in the Brac University Library Institutional Repository that do not fall into the definition of Academic Department, School, or Research Center will require approval of the appropriate Academic Chair, Director, or Dean.
  • Individuals may not submit items without belonging to an established community.
  • The individual in the community establishes that the items submitted have copyright clearance and that the submitter has the right to submit the item(s) with regard to copyright compliance.
  • The community leader (Academic Department Chair, School Director, Research Center Director) agrees that the information that he or she has approved for submission to the Brac University Library Institutional Repository be allowed to be accessible to the world via the Web via the Brac University
  • Institutional Repository
  • Clear copyright for items submitted when copyright owner is other than author(s) or submitters
  • Decide who may submit content within the community

Preservation Policy
  • Items will be retained indefinitely.
  • Brac University will try to ensure continued readability and accessibility. It may not be possible to guarantee the readability of some unusual file formats.
  • Brac University will regularly backs up its files according to current best practice.
  • Items may not normally be removed from Brac University DSpace.

Submission Policy
  • Items may only be deposited by accredited members, academic staff, and employees of the institution
  • The validity and authenticity of the content of submissions is the sole responsibility of the depositor.
  • Items may not be deposited until any publishers' or funders' embargo period has expired.
  • Any copyright violations are entirely the responsibility of the authors/depositors.
  • If Brac University DSpace receives proof of copyright violation, the relevant item will be removed immediately.

Withdrawal of items from the Repository
  • Withdrawn items are not deleted per se, but are removed from public view.
  • Withdrawn items' identifiers/URLs are retained indefinitely.
  • The metadata of withdrawn items will not be searchable.
  • Changes to deposited items are not permitted.
