Abstract

The topic of disability and proper facilities for the differently abled community has become a major socio-economic issue in Bangladesh. As a result the Ministry of Social Welfare under the Public Works Department (PWD) of Bangladesh has deemed it necessary to establish a first of its kind, National Sports Complex specifically tailored for the differently abled community near the urban capital of Dhaka. The project aims to promote the development of differently abled youths through sports facilities, education, medical support, vocational training, accommodation and act as a hub for the promotion of paralympic sports around the country. This dissertation explores the academic architectural design of the National Sports Complex for the Differently Abled from the design process, to best integrate the project into the public realm fulfilling all the specialized needs of the differently abled youths and the various paralympic sports, to the finished design product.
