X, meaning Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, is a wireless digital communications system, also known as IEEE 802.16 that is intended for wireless "metropolitan area networks". It is a telecommunications technology that provides for the wireless transmission of data using a variety of transmission modes, from point-to-point links to portable internet access. The technology provides up to 75 Mb/sec symmetric broadband speeds without the need for cables. WiMAX can provide broadband wireless access (BWA)up to 30 miles (50 km) for fixed stations, and 3 - 10 miles (5 - 15 km) for mobile stations. In contrast, the WiFi/802.11 wireless local area network standard is limited in most cases to only 100 - 300 feet (30 - 100m). Soon, WiMAX will be a very well recognized term to describe wireless Internet access throughout the world. In Bangladesh, this technology is going to be deployed very shortly. A network planning is required for its successful deployment. In our work we have proposed a network planning for both fixed and nomadic WiMAX deployment for Dhaka. Considering this metropolitan city, we have attempted to give the specification of the parameters to make it cost effective with best performance. As the software that is used for this purpose is expensive and unavailable, we have done it manually only from the perspective of access network and transmission network. The work can be extended to do the planning for the whole country. By using the network simulator software we are looking forward to examine the planning and the set values parameters in your future work.en_US
