Art is a medium of expression which people use to communicate and express their creativity. The practice of art has been deeply rooted in the history of mankind. It is through art we get to know the various circumstances and emotions surrounding the artist. Depending on the type of art in many cases it may also express the social condition at that time. As a result, they become valuable pieces of record that help present times to understand important events and happenchance throughout history. Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin was such an artist in the history of Bangladesh. He was the pioneer of modern art who became well known in the year 1943 for his series of famine paintings depicting some of the great famines in Bengal during its British colonial period. After the Partition of Indian subcontinent, he moved to East Pakistan. Most of his works are currently stored and displayed in the Zainul Abedin Art Museum for people to acknowledge the horrific times of Bengal. This dissertation paper is a descriptive article describing the various aspects and approaches that were taken into consideration while redesigning the Zainul Abedin Art Institute, Mymensingh, Bangladesh as a thesis project. The consideration explored has guided the total design process. Moreover, the article also provides a detailed study on the history of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin and his style of work.en_US
