dc.description.abstractWe present a phonetic encoding for Bangla that can be used by spelling checkers, transliteration, name searching application and cross-lingual information retrieval to drastically improve the quality. The complex, and often inconsistent, rules of Bangla word present a significant challenge in producing a proper phonetic code. We propose a phonetic encoding for Bangla, taking into account the various context-sensitive rules, including those involving the large repertoire of conjuncts in Bangla.en_US
