Abstract

This internship report is based on my three months experience as an intern in the Retail Banking Division of The City Bank PLC in the VIP Road Branch. The internship has given me the opportunity to gain hands-on experience on general banking activities and an exposure to customer service practices. The main target of this report is to go through the employee training and development practices of The City Bank PLC, focusing on the retail banking sector, and by identifying the gaps that already exist, and by making recommendations by applying the relevant HRM theories. In this report, both primary and secondary data has been used in the preparation of the report through direct observations daily, gaining hands-on experience during the internship period, and also through informal conversations with the employees and supervisors were the primary data collection sources. The secondary data were collected by using the annual report of the bank, the official sites and academic journals or research. The findings of the report show that the City Bank PLC has a modern training system which has been well developed especially during recent years, these includes online training platforms, on the job training and skill development programs based on the objectives of the organization.
