Abstract
Five brands of 500 mg Ciprofloxacin tablets sold in Bangladesh were assessed for quality control characteristics in this study. This is to evaluate their adherence to USP guidelines. Tests were conducted on randomly chosen samples from each brand to measure weight variation, hardness, friability, disintegration, and dissolution. Every brand showed outstanding friability performance (<1% weight loss) and complied with weight variation standards (±5% deviation). In the disintegration test, all five brands of Ciprofloxacin tablets tested broke in the medium in 3 minutes 5 seconds to 9 minutes 3 seconds. This means they all met the medicine standards. Moreover, in the dissolution test, a drug release profile of less than 31% means patients would not get enough therapeutic effect as it doesn’t fulfill the USP/BP guidelines of drug dissolution testing.
