Abstract

Heavy metals like lead, mercury and cadmium are elements which can cause severe toxicities like kidney failure, bloody diarrhea, and abdominal cramping. Low-dose exposure is covert and undetectable, leading to neuropsychiatric disorders, fatigue, anxiety, and negative effects on children's IQ and intellectual function. The cellular processes of growth, proliferation, differentiation, damage repair, and apoptosis are all affected by heavy metals. Similar pathways for these metals to cause toxicity are shown by comparing their mechanisms of action, including reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, weakened antioxidant defense, enzyme inactivation, and oxidative stress. This study is done to see if Vitamin E have natural antioxidant properties which decrease the effects of these toxicities.
