Abstract

Ibuprofen is a drug with very poor aqueous solubility and high permeability. Its poor aqueous solubility is one of the major problems when formulating a dosage form with it. This study was conducted by considering its poor aqueous solubility and solely concentrated on increasing the solubility. In this study the solubility of ibuprofen was examined by dissolution method using water, 10% ethanol and 20% ethanol as solvents. Poloxamer 407 and L-leucine were used as excipients. The whole study was conducted at 25ºC. Ibuprofen was found to show a significant enhancement in solubility in addition with poloxamer 407 in three of the solvent system up to a certain poloxamer 407 concentration (2%). L-leucine did not affect the solubility of ibuprofen significantly, the increment in the solubility were irregular.
