Folk art is an art of the folk, by the folk and for the folk. This is an indigenous art practiced by the people for their own consumption and use. Folk Art is characterized by a naive style, in which traditional rules of proportion and perspective are not employed. Closely related terms are Outsider Art, Self-Taught Art and Naïve art. Folk art reflects traditional art forms of diverse community groups — ethnic, tribal, religious, occupational, geographical, age- or gender-based — who identify with each other and society at large. The proposal of National center for folk arts arises from the need of preserving the rich field of folk arts and crafts of our country. The goal of this project is to create an environment from where a person will get knowledge about the deep rooted traditions of our country. The Centre will help to preserve and display the traditional arts and cultural heritage of the nation.en_US
