Perception of parents about their play-based engagement with 3-5 years old children

Abstract

Different groups and cultures have different ideas about what play is worth and how to value it. Children's development depends on play, especially when parents engaged in play with children. Previous studies on play have shown that children's play is changing. The purpose of the study was to comprehend how parents in Bangladesh believed about playtime activities and involvement with their 3- to 5-year-old children in the Dhaka urban area. Data were gathered utilizing an unstructured questionnaire and an in-depth interview style because it was a qualitative study. The purposive sample method was used to choose a total of ten participants, the majority of whom came from middle-class families. Data were collected remotely using phone call. The research's conclusions are divided into three sections: (i) parental perceptions on play with their children, (ii) the rules of play that parents adhere to and (iii) the obstacles they meet. Every parent expresses their personal opinions and viewpoints in a unique manner. All participants acknowledged the necessity for positive attitudes about play. For a better research outcome, additional research should be conducted in terms of broader perceptions from both urban and rural locations.
