The study looks at the practices of supplier evaluation and selection in the apparel supply chain with a specific study on Pacific Jeans Limited. In the competitive ready-made garments (RMG) industry, managing suppliers is a key element to ensure cost efficiency, product quality, and timely delivery. The study involves a survey of current procurement practices and supplier evaluation by interviewing various members of the supply chain and a review of internal processes. Results of this finding revealed that supplier selection is predominantly managerial decision based, where only a small number of people use standardized assessment instruments and/or performance tracking systems. Without a structured assessment process, there can be inefficiencies and inconsistent decision making. To solve these problems, the study suggests a complete supplier evaluation program that integrates with the weighted criteria including cost, quality, reliable delivery, supplier capability, etc. The research is useful and it brings together theory and practice and offers solutions for the improvement of supplier selection, operational performance and the long-term strategic sourcing process in the apparel industry.
