Abstract
The shopping mall sector of Bangladesh has seen exponential growth in the last two decades, however, the majority of these projects end up not making ends meet due to their prioritization of maximum retail profitability over user experience. This has, as a result, led to cramped shop designs, poor circulation, and shops that end up not bringing in the amount of customers they require to break even on their overhead costs. Inevitably, the mall is then forced to close and vacate numerous shops, creating a high tenant turnover rate. Shopping Malls, particularly in the United States generally also ignore essential daily use services which have inevitably lead to the downfall of Malls as a whole in the US whereas the rest of the world , particularly in Europe and Asia, malls are still thriving due to the inclusions of facilities such as supermarkets which allow visitors to have a reason to visit the mall at least once a week for their groceries. This project aims to address these systemic issues by taking a more contemporary approach towards shopping mall design, where the user experience is given the highest priority while still meeting a balance with the profitability of the shops through efficient and sustainable design.
