Abstract

This research was carried out to assess the biological properties of the Pterocarpus Indicus Willd. leaves of the Fabaceae family. To study the leaves, antioxidant activity was examined using DPPH free radical scavenging method along with total phenolic content and thrombolytic activity by clot lysis. The results were observed after performing the experiments where Pterocarpus Indicus Willd. leaves manifested poor antioxidant activity. The IC50 value of the scavenging activity of the plant was 135.211 and for the standard ascorbic acid was 67.842 μg/ml. Additionally, the total phenolic count was 82.693. However, a promising thrombolytic effect was observed from the outcome. The plant extract showed nearly equal clot lysis percentage as the standard Clopidogrel. The in-vitro biological screening indicated the presence of antioxidant and thrombolytic activities. The study exhibits that the leaf of the Pterocarpus Indicus Willd. has bioactive chemical compounds which may provide a source of antioxidant and thrombolytic agents.
