Abstract
The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in Jagannathpur, Sunamganj, is designed to address
critical challenges in Bangladesh's agricultural sector while fostering the training institute as a
flood-resilient shelter, multi-use space that promotes community resilience and inclusive
development. Agriculture remains the backbone of the national economy of our country, yet it
faces significant challenges such as flooding, land scarcity, climate change, and soil degradation.
This project integrates traditional Bangladeshi vernacular architecture with modern construction
techniques to create a sustainable, multi-functional educational campus.
Spanning 20 acres, the ATI will provide facilities for academic programs, dormitories,
administrative offices, agricultural training spaces and demonstration fields. The aim of this project
is to enhance rural development by training 400 students every year with professional skills and
knowledge of agriculture. Furthermore, the institute aims to serve local farmers through hands-on
training programs, promoting sustainable farming practices and increasing agricultural
productivity in the region.
The Sylhet region is highly vulnerable to flooding, which disrupts livelihoods, damages
agricultural land and livestock and wash away infrastructure annually. Recognizing this, the ATI
also aims to serve as a flood-resilient shelter for local communities during emergencies. The
campus incorporates raised plinths, flood-resistant materials, and accessible multipurpose spaces
that can accommodate displaced populations. Multi-use facilities, such as dormitories classrooms
and training halls are designed to transform into shelters during floods, ensuring safety for both
humans and animals without compromising the primary educational purpose
