Quality of BRAC education programme: a review of existing studies

Abstract

Considering an input-process-output (IPO) framework of analysing quality of education this report reviewed all the 140 studies conducted in the Research and Evaluation Division of BRAC during the last 18 years. The review work aims to explore the quality of BRAC Education Programme (BEP). More than 80% of the studies are on children’s and adolescents’ education programme. Thus, the findings on these two school programmes can easily fit into the IPO model. The findings reveal that quality of such school programmes was satisfactory compared to the mainstream primary education. Research on other components of BEP also showed positive effect on the subjects. However, the IPO model could not be used for these components due to unavailability of adequate research output. More research on these components need to be done. Some of the limitations of the studies are also indicated. Finally, we suggest that at least one study on each of the components of BEP be carried out following the said analytical framework during phase IV of BRAC Education Programme.
