Abstract

Contract management has become an integral part of development in the context of Bangladesh. It includes various parts from planning to closing of the project. In every stage management of quality, time and cost is very crucial. For smooth completion, a contract document can help in every aspect like planning, design, implementation, and evaluation. The Roads and Highways department is engaged in implementing roads, bridges, culverts, underpasses, and flyovers in all over Bangladesh. RHD practices these developments through the procurement of works, goods, and services. This case study encompasses RHD officials to perform a contract perfectly so that; any conflict situation can be mitigated earlier to make the contract successful. Furthermore, the study will help the field-level officers of RHD to execute contracts in a better way who are engaged in a lot of extra activities resulting in inappropriate knowledge about contract management. There are different types of projects being implemented by RHD. The mega projects which are aided by foreign funds mostly have individual project implementation units. The mega or international projects must follow FIDIC rules and regulations. On the other hand, the GoB projects must follow PPR-2008 and instructions from CPTU. RHD has a draft contract document format that provides information about contract management for the GoB projects. There are several training programs conducted for internal, connected, and external stakeholders to run a project through proper knowledge and guidance. Finally, a lot of scopes for further study have been associated with this study.
