dc.description.abstractType 2 diabetes mellitus has a great impact on worldwide. It is a disease which is getting more common day by day. There are many medications available to treat type 2 diabetes. Among those medications sulfonylureas has shown some excellent efficacy and results, so that it is getting more popular as an anti-diabetic drug to treat type 2 diabetes. There are various generations of sulfonylureas like first generation, second generation. This anti diabetic drug mainly works by inhibiting insulin release from the pancreatic beta cell. But along with the benefits of sulfonylureas there is a concern about the cardiovascular risk associated with this drug. In this paper, the role of sulfonylureas has been briefly discussed how it is beneficial for the type 2 diabetic patients. Duration of action, working mechanisms of sulfonylureas have also been discussed. Some assuring results has been shown related to the cardiovascular risk of the sulfonylureas.en_US
