Abstract

This study focuses on to know the current role of urban fathers in child rearing practices in early years. Most of the fathers and mothers in this study could define the term child development and they mentioned it is a growing process. Some of them relate child development with physical and brain development and also gave emphasis on nutrition. Most of the fathers relate fathers’ role in a child’s cognitive, social and emotional development. It has found out that fathers’ play caregivers role when their wives are working outside. For housewives the fathers mostly spend time with their children by playing, taking them outside, buying thing, or trying to give quality time on free times. The study also found out that the area where fathers could be more involved is taking care of their children’s study. Both in FGD and IDI the fathers gave priority to their children and family.
