Abstract

The internship at Southeast Bank PLC provided me the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and practical knowledge about banking during the three-month internship period. The current internship report has been composed of a systematic process which integrated both practical experience and academic research based on clearly established objectives. The main objectives of the report were to examine the employee engagement and retention practices of Southeast Bank PLC and establish the determinants of employee motivation, commitment and turnover intention. The first stage involved identifying the goals and scope of the study relying on the experience on internship and the advice of academic and organizational supervisors. Theories and concepts that are relevant to employee engagement, retention and human resource management were in turn reviewed in order to develop a solid theoretical basis. An extensive literature review based on scholarly journals, and reliable internet resources, annual reports, organizational documents and publicly available information were used as the sources of secondary data whereas the real experience was obtained through observation over the three months of the internship. Lastly, the analysis of the findings was done through a correlation between theory and practice and thus conclusions and recommendations were made in line with the objectives of the study.
