Abstract
Insomnia is a common sleep disorder characterized by nocturnal and diurnal symptoms including dissatisfaction with sleep quantity or quality, trouble initiating or maintaining sleep and significant discomfort and impaired daytime performance. The prevalence of insomnia among university students globally is getting higher due to competitiveness in academic or job environments, technology dependency, unhealthy lifestyle, fear of failure and financial problems. This study aims to assess the prevalence of insomnia among university students of Bangladesh and to identify the potential risk factors associated with this. A survey-based study was conducted on 952 of students between 18 to 30 years from different universities of Bangladesh based on the AIS-8 scale and their demographic factors were also assessed. 587(61.6%) students among them were found to be insomniacs and significant correlation was found with their smoking habit, parent’s status, academic performance and presence of chronic diseases.
