Amlodipine is a widely used calcium channel blockers as a treatment option for hypertension. In this study some key pharmaceutical parameters such as friability, hardness, disintegration, dissolution and potency of five different brands (A-E) of amlodipine were evaluated following the USP guidelines. UV-VIS spectrophotometer was used to determine the dissolution profile and potency of the drugs. All the brands comply with the USP requirements in friability and disintegration test, however, little variation in hardness and dissolution time was observed. Potency of all the brands meet the specification as per USP except brand D. The evaluation from the analysis highlights the importance of continuous monitoring of quality control parameters in ensuring therapeutic efficacy and patient safety in different brands of amlodipine.
