Abstract
In Bangladesh, women make a major portion of the population who live in poverty.
Such women usually become a liability to their families and are married off early in
life, lack education and are not financially independent. Most of them remained in
poverty, subject to harassment and abuse even after marriage, and these are usually
associated with dowry related problems. The right to education, freedom of choice to
get married and bear children and a chance to earn a living is a far-off dream to most
poor women in Bangladesh.
নবজীবন (Nabojibon) is a training and recovery center where women who are in
desperate need can find a home and shelter. The surroundings of this center will
help women recover and become empowered by nature and skillsets. They will be
taught practically in Information technology, agriculture, art, cooking, pottery, sewing,
handicraft, and Nakshi Kantha embroidery- which will empower them with skills and
confidence in restoring their lives and attain autonomy despite their family conditions.
