Abstract

This paper analyses Carl Gustav Jung’s psyche model, broadly known as “Jungian Analysis”. The two novels Mexican Gothic, written by Silvia Moreno-Garcia and Night Film, written by Marisha Pessl are analysed through the lens of Jungian analysis. This paper asserts that these two Gothic novels observe the process of Jung’s individuation, the psychological journey to connect the bridge between the conscious and unconscious self. This study applies Carl Jung’s concept of the collective unconsciousness and archetypes to deconstruct the human psyche. In both texts, the central characters get involved with mysterious investigations. Mexican Gothic explicates the inbuilt shadow in the characters and Night film analyses the consumption of shadow. The two novels effectively portray the Jungian concepts such as shadow, persona, anima/animas, individuation and collective unconscious, analysing the human psyche.
