| dc.description.abstract | Spinal cord injury (SCI) is one of the main factors contributing to world disability resulting in irreversible functional impairment, severe morbidity, and financial difficulties with no effective clinical treatments. Regardless of varying degrees of success, it has remained a challenging area for scientists due to the complex healing mechanism and the adverse nature of its pathophysiology. Although the results of clinical trials employing regenerative therapy specifically cell-based therapies have proved safe, their efficacy has not been successfully demonstrated. In this paper, I will review previously explored therapy strategies including cell-based therapies, biomaterial scaffolds, nanopharmaceuticals, and a combination of all of these therapies while highlighting current challenges in the research and clinical trials which may fill the gap between the brain and regenerative therapeutics. Therefore, this review article aims to provide insight into the most promising restoration methods and future directions to promote further research of regenerative therapies in the treatment of SCI. | en_US |
