Abstract

The focus of the project is on revitalizing Khilgaon Adhunik Nagar Market, previously recognized as Khilgaon Kacha Bazar, located in Dhaka. Despite its historical significance as a traditional bazaar, the market has encountered challenges in preserving both its identity and functionality. The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) puts forth a comprehensive initiative to convert the 1.75-acre site into a dynamic and user-friendly environment. The objective is not only to address retail needs but also to create a central space for community gatherings, nurturing a unique sense of place. Project goals encompass the examination of traditional bazaar structures, analysis of public functions and spaces, conservation of Khilgaon's distinct identity, and provision of space for urban activities. The need for redevelopment stems from the market's declining conditions, encompassing safety issues, chaotic layouts, and disruptions in urban transportation. This strategic intervention aims to accommodate future growth and enhance diverse aspects of urban life.
