Abstract

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a chronic autosomal recessive disease that causes absence or dysfunction of Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator protein (CFTR) that mediates ion channels. CF is a multi-organ disease that affects the function of lung, kidney, and pancreas by causing chronic inflammation, mucus accumulation, infection, loss of function, resulting in morbidity and mortality. CF is a pediatric disease in which patients die in the first year of life but the advancement in the medical field increases the longevity of patients up to 5 decades. Even though CF doesn't have any ultimate cure or prevention method, the advanced medical technology reduces the symptoms and improves the health. Early diagnosis also helps in CF treatment. Recent development of CFTR modulators target the mechanisms of mutation and reverse it and restore function. Also, many other drugs are under clinical trials to check their safety and efficacy
