| dc.description.abstract | The availability of several brands of Ginkgo biloba in Bangladesh market places the health professionals in a confused situation when selecting the desired quality product for patients. This study was aimed to evaluate the quality by comparing antioxidant activities and HPLC metabolite profile of two brands formulated from Ginkgo biloba, purchased from retail pharmacies. These drugs are widely used in blood disorders, COPD symptoms, Alzheimer’s disease, Raynaud’s disease, peripheral vascular disease. In DPPH free radical scavenging assay, the highest % of inhibition for sample 1 and 2 was 88.022% and 86.892%. At the highest concentration of 1200 µg/mL, sample 1 extract showed higher value in TPC, TFC and TAC test. In HPLC metabolite profile, quercetin and kaempferol amount for sample 1 was also better than sample 2. Based on the study findings, sample 1 is expected to produce more therapeutic effect than sample 2. | en_US |
