Sultana Kamal Women’s Complex: the redevelopment of a sports complex

Abstract

Sultana Kamal Women’s Complex is a sports based entity situated in the heart of Dhanmondi. The complex is commonly used by the females of the city and also any professional women’s sports team players. The reason why it is used at the national level is because this complex provides residential facilities along with having a few general amenities like play fields, swimming pool, etc. Women from all over the country come here for training purposes. Apart from these, Sultana Kamal Women’s Complex is also open to children and in some cases like Taekwondo, Karate, even male participants are allowed. It is in fact a landmark of that particular area surrounded by mostly residential and some educational buildings. It is a multi-functional complex accommodating several kinds of sports as well as a private residence for the players. Women sports are still slacking behind in numerous ways. Hence, the point of the project is to set an illustration of the conceivable ways the government proposed Sultana Kamal Ladies Complex can be planned to create more utilitarianism and empower more ladies in Bangladesh to take an interest in sports movement. It can become a recreational space for general people as well as the ultimate hub for women interested in athletics. Therefore, the intention of this project is to empower women through sports and getting the people to discard societal norms. One of the main purposes is to make people appreciate the approach of combining women's sports with entertainment and recreation. In this way, both the sports groups and government can share benefits which can in this way improve financial development. As the design approach, I tried to express the dynamism of sports through the form of the project and also how it should be interpreted by a common man. The spectacular site boundary was taken majorly under consideration which influenced the planning and zoning of the project, greatly. Thereafter, the design approach is a combination of the site forces as well as the concept of sports related maneuver.
