    Grouping of handwritten Bangla basic characters, numerals and vowel modifiers for multilayer classification

    For better performance in multilayer or hierarchical classification of handwritten text, appropriate grouping of similar symbols is very important. Here we aim to develop a reliable grouping schema for the similar looking basic characters, numerals and vowel modifiers of Bangla language. We experimented with thickened and thinned segmented handwritten text to compare which type of image is better for which group. For classification we chose Support Vector Machine (SVM) as it outperforms other classifiers in this field. We used both "one against one" and "one against all" strategies for multiclass SVM and compared their performance.

    Night mode prohibitory traffic signs detection

    Prohibitory traffic signs play an important role in guiding, warning and regulating traffic system. As driving over the speed limit is often the major cause of accidents, detecting this group of prohibitory signs may reduce this danger. This paper presents an approach to detecting speed limit signs at night mode which is based on Multi-Scale Retinex Color Restoration and Hough Transform. Experiment to check the strength of this approach shows that approximately 96.6% of the prohibitory traffic signs invoked for this test were successfully detected. This test was carried out at dark mode images from different country.

    Night mode face recognition using adaptively weighted sub-pattern PCA

    The face recognition problem is made difficult by the great variability in head rotation and tilt, lighting intensity and angle, facial expression, aging, partial occlusion (e.g. Wearing Hats, scarves, glasses etc.), etc. Principal components from the face space are used for face recognition to reduce dimensionality of database images. However, this paper discusses on adaptively weighted sub-pattern PCA (Aw-SpPCA) based face recognition system for dark images that have captured at night. It is really difficult to capture good quality picture at night for lacking of light source with traditional acquisition devices like camera or mobile phone. The computational photographic concepts have been applied to enhance the quality of the capture images at night automatically. Multi-scale retinex color restorations (MSRCR) technique has been applied for overcome this problem. Moreover, for recognition phase of this propose method, unlike PCA based on a whole image pattern, Aw-SpPCA operates directly on its sub patterns partitioned from an original whole pattern and separately extracts features from them. Aw-SpPCA can adaptively compute the contributions of each part and then endows them to a classification task in order to enhance the robustness to both expression and illumination variations. Experimental results show that the proposed method is competitive.

    Automatic will enabled system of multi-modal operation

    AWESOMMO(Automatic Will Enabled System of Multi-Modal Operation)uses Sony PS3 Eye image sensor for high speed image processing and a microphone for voice recognition commands. Armed with 3 degrees of freedom of operation, provides the ability to move freely and interact with the physical objects around it. This robot uses a M.M.O (massively multiplayer online) server named 'Spider Monkey', which enables the robot to be operated remotely. For the first time, a game engine has been customized with serial communication protocol addition to control microcontroller unit of a robot as the game engine handles multithreaded operation in the best possible way. This paper discusses the physical, mechanical and computational methods used in design and construction of the robot along with its multi-modal control feature. This paper also demonstrates the abilities and benefits of using M.M.O and PS3 Eye in such a way that it becomes platform for developing software for robotics and embedded system development.
