listelement.badge.dso-type Item , Adoption of online social media innovation: Who's inside the spectrum?(© 2014, IGI Global., 2014-06-30) Raziuddin, Khan Md Raziuddin; Shahriar, Faisal Mohammad; BRAC Business SchoolFew but mentionable studies have been conducted in typifying the Online Social Media (OSM) users. Studies on innovations taking place within the OSM environment are also very much found. But gaps are present in linking OSM innovations and adoption of innovations by the OSM users. Precise and objective studies to put the OSM users in an adoption spectrum are close to nil, though such studies might carry great significance in this new but exploding field of business and marketing. This study focuses on proposing an 'Adoption Spectrum' for OSM innovations by the users by proliferating Rogers's 'Adoption of Innovation' with the 'Typology of OSM Users'. Absolutely conceptual and qualitative in nature, the study concentrates on assessing the speed and magnitude of adoption of OSM innovations by the users. The proposed spectrum is an alignment between Rogers's work and the OSM user typology. Mentionable limitation of this piece of work may be forwarding the empirical justifications for further study. However, the study may be used as input for managing innovations by the firms that venture through OSM.listelement.badge.dso-type Item , Modelling consumers' environmental responsibility and understanding of eco-labels: a conceptual framework for empirical research in Malaysia(© 2014 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd., 2014) Taufique, Khan Md Raziuddin; Siwar, Chamhuri Bin; Talib, Basri Abdul Abdul; Chamhuri, Norshamliza; BRAC Business SchoolThis paper aims to develop and propose an all-inclusive framework for assessing consumers' environmental responsibility and understanding of eco-labels. One of the preparatory issues regarding green marketing is to understand consumers' environmental concerns and to take action accordingly. Another operational vehicle for green marketing is the use of eco-labels. Although some studies 'criticised' these two vital issues, no study has so far been found to be comprehensive theoretically and methodologically and sound in content. Yet the government of Malaysia and other organisations are undertaking various initiatives in order to 'green' the economy. The number of eco-labels is also increasing. Apparently uncovering consumers' environmental concerns and their understanding and perception of eco-labels are called for. The proposed framework incorporates six constructs for measuring consumers' environmental responsibility and ten constructs for assessing consumers' understanding of eco-labels. This study is exploratory in nature in that it relies solely on surveying available published literature.listelement.badge.dso-type Item , Synthesis of constructs for modeling consumers' understanding and perception of eco-labels(© 2014 MDPI AG, 2014) Taufique, Khan Md Raziuddin; Siwar, Chamhuri Bin; Talib, Basri Abdul Abdul; Sarah, Farah Hasan; Chamhuri, Norshamliza; BRAC Business SchoolThe term "eco-labeling" has become a buzzword in today's sustainable business world. The use of eco-labeling in various forms has been increasing notably for past many years, sometimes as an environmental "requirement" and sometimes merely as a marketing tool. Questions arise about how well these eco-labels are attended and understood by consumers. However, though mentionable studies are found on various aspects of eco-labels, gaps exist in exploring an inclusive set of parameters for investigating consumer perceptions of eco-labels. This paper aims at preparing a synthesis of all the possible factors to be incorporated for measuring consumer perceptions of eco-labeling of products. For making such synthesis, all major works in the field have been thoroughly reviewed. The paper comes up with a total of 10 parameters that include consumer awareness, consumer knowledge, consumer involvement, consumer trust, design and visibility, credibility of the source, type and level of information, clarity of meaning, persuasiveness, and private benefits. This tentative, yet inclusive, set of parameters is thought to be useful for designing large scale future empirical researches for developing a dependable inclusive set of parameters to test consumer understanding and perceptions of eco-label. A framework is proposed for further empirical research.listelement.badge.dso-type Item , The influence of eco-label knowledge and trust on pro-environmental consumer behaviour in an emerging market(© 2016 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group., 2017-11) Taufique, Khan Md Raziuddin; Vocino, Andrea; Polonsky, Michael Jay; BRAC Business SchoolConsumers are increasingly concerned about the negative environmental implications of purchasing goods, which in turn shape their behaviour. Yet, there are indications that consumers do not always act on these concerns, causing an attitude–behaviour gap. For consumers to make ecologically responsible purchases, they need relevant product environmental information. Therefore, marketers and firms are increasingly integrating more detailed environmental information in their offerings, including eco-labels with externally validated information. This study integrates consumers’ knowledge and trust in eco-labels with their environmental knowledge to determine how these affect pro-environmental consumer behaviour (PECB). The findings suggest environmental and eco-label knowledge is positively associated with attitudes towards the environment, and that positive environmental attitudes and trust in eco-labels affect PECB. This implies that firms, policy-makers and accreditation organisations (i.e. labelling) can educate consumers about eco-labels and the environment to increase PECB. Such strategies will also build consumer knowledge and trust in eco-labels, necessary for facilitating PECB.listelement.badge.dso-type Item , Education supply chain management model to achieve sustainability in private Universities in Malaysia: a review(© 2016 ExcelingTech Pub., 2016) Basu, Govindaraju; Jeyasingam, John; Habib, Md Mamun; BRAC Business SchoolThis paper addresses an Integrated Tertiary Educational Supply Chain Management Model (ITESCM) to achieve sustainability among the private universities in Malaysia. There are different well-recognized estimation tools for software development process [9], however, there remains a lack of standard tools for estimation of Software Test phase. Therefore, the authors developed a web base tool (www.4beats.net/tpet/) in order to determine the time and cost of projects. This paper highlights the comparable result with COCOMOII (Constructive Cost Model) model. More than 22 projects are already estimated by this open tool and from them 5 case projects, namely, Climate Resilient Ecosystems and Livelihood (CREL), Management Accounts Consolidation System for Line Director (LDMACS), PBI (Police Bureau of Investigations) Works Management System Software, PBI Mobile Apps and Human Resources Management System (HRMS) have selected. This paper would play a vital role to estimate time and cost for software test project and be beneficial for the software industry.listelement.badge.dso-type Item , Low Carbon Freight Services analysis: a review study(© 2017 ExcelingTech Pub, UK., 2017) Deris, Shahla; Zailani, Suhaiza; Habib, Md Mamun; Mansournia, Mohammad Reza; BRAC Business SchoolThe analysis of Low Carbon Freight Services is relatively recent. These challenges are increasing as the job market becomes more globally competitive. Anchored from the Integrated Tertiary Educational Supply Chain Management (ITESCM) model, this study proposed a Supply Chain Management (SCM) model for Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) in the Philippines. The study utilized cross-sectional, explanatory research design and was participated in by 863 respondents composed of administrators, faculty, students and graduates selected through purposive sampling using partial least square- structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Results from instruction model show that the program establishment is the most significant factor for both instruction development and instruction assessment in producing high level of quality graduates. Results from research model show that the program establishment in research development and TEIs' culture in research assessment are the most significant factor in producing relevant research output. For the extension output, program establishment is the most significant factor in extension development while in extension assessment, faculty capabilities and facilities are the most significant factors in producing service oriented professionals. The model was called Productivity and Advancement of Graduates through a Unified and Innovative Outputs-Instruction, Research and Extension or PAGUIO-INREX Model. This model emphasizes the importance of the trifocal function of higher education to the formation of productive and competent graduates of Teacher Education Institutions, who in turn, can contribute to the progress and development of the country.listelement.badge.dso-type Item , A model of customer-centric banking practices for corporate clients in Bangladesh(© 2016 Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., 2016) Andaleeb, Dr. Syed Saad; Rashid, Mamunur Harunur; Rahman, Quazi AkhlaqurCustomer-centric banking envisions that banks should meet both tangible and intangible satisfaction criteria of their customers. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the customer-centric banking practices that drive satisfaction of corporate customers in Bangladesh. Design/methodology/approach – Financial managers from a sample of 112 non-financial listed companies were interviewed. The study employed a structured questionnaire using Likert scales. Exploratory factor analysis followed by multiple regression analysis were used to test the effects of both tangible and intangible factors. Findings – The findings of the study indicate that customer-centric banking is primarily influenced by intangible factors. Among six bank selection criteria analyzed in this study, corporate image, commitment, compassion and consistency are the four significant intangible factors that drive corporate customer satisfaction. The two tangible factors: cost-benefit and convenience were not significant determinants of satisfaction for corporate clients. Research limitations/implications – For lack of sample frames and relative unavailability of corporate respondents, a non-probability sampling technique was used. The study contributes to the existing literature on customer-centric marketing, relationship marketing and bank selection by suggesting that there is a shift in banking needs among corporate clients in developing countries such as Bangladesh. Practical implications – The study contributes to a richer understanding of the customer-centric banking framework, suggesting the service strategies that banks ought to adopt. The results are especially important for developing countries that are experiencing a change in theoretical understanding of customer satisfaction in financial services. Originality/value – Now banks and policy makers can better strategize on building loyal corporate customers for banks, thereby ensuring healthy corporate banking relationship. Banks can also prioritize on the important intangible elements to focus on to satisfy corporate customers. Among other factors, technology adoption, training of corporate customer managers, and emphasizing customer-centric banking policies may help provide better services and obtain higher levels of customer satisfaction.listelement.badge.dso-type Item , The relevance of the concept of good governance: revisiting goals, agendas and strategies(© 2015 Springer International Publishing) Khan, Akbar Ali; BRAC Business SchoolAgainst the backdrop of debates on the relevance of good governance, this chapter examines the goals, agendas and implementation strategies of governance. Gradually it is becoming more specialised and commercialised throughout the world. In this study a sample of 400 students were taken from the five renowned private universities of Bangladesh for measuring perception toward education quality of existing students. Principle component analysis was used to measure grouping among variables indicating dimensions of education quality. Perceptions about education quality were tested as to whether they have associations with the students' characteristics of current status and socio-economic background. The findings of the study showed that both administrative and faculty characteristics jointly express quality of education to a higher extent, whereas institutional features and students' characteristics express quality of education to a moderate extent. The study also showed that perceptions toward quality of education depend on students' current status and socio-economic background.listelement.badge.dso-type Item , Evaluating the effect of cost related factors on relationship quality: An investigation of retailer-supplier relationship in Bangladesh(© 2013, Emerald Group Publishing Limited) Tareque Aziz, Mohammed; Noor, Nor Azila Mohd; BRAC Business SchoolPurpose – In today's competitive retail industry maintaining relationships with suppliers has become very important to modern day retailers. To develop and maintain long-term relationships with their suppliers, retailers need to identify and understand the key antecedents enhancing the quality of their relationships. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the effect of the cost related factors on relationship quality in the retail industry. Design/methodology/approach – This study is exploratory in nature and involved factor and multiple regression analysis. Data were cross sectional in nature and the unit of analysis was individual retail companies in Bangladesh. Findings – Results derived from the exploratory factor analysis revealed a new factor named operational cost. The results of the regression analysis showed that termination cost became the strongest predictor influencing the quality of a retailer's relationship with its suppliers. Research limitations/implications – The characteristics of the three cost related factors from the study indicated that future research should focus on and incorporate other factors influencing relationship quality in retail settings. Practical implications – The results from the study identified a few key cost factors, based upon which the retailers can take necessary steps to develop effective relationship marketing strategies with their suppliers. Social implications – The findings from this research can guide retailers to enhance their relationship with their suppliers, thus contributing toward a more harmonious working environment within the B2B domain. Originality/value – The research is based on primary data collected from Bangladesh's retail industry.listelement.badge.dso-type Item , Entry mode and subsidiary performance in emerging economics(Mustang Journals, 2011) Kamal, Md. ShawkatBased on Institutional Theory and the Resource Based View of the firm, this paper aims at finding a relationship between an MNC’s choice of entry mode and the subsequent performance of the subsidiaries. There is a serious lack of work in the international business literature that looks at the influence of entry mode on subsidiary performance. Thus looking at this issue merits attention. The paper specifically looks at the choice between a joint venture entry, and a wholly owned subsidiary based entry and provides a number of testable propositions.listelement.badge.dso-type Item , Survival during economic shock: the role of firm experience(Journal of State University of Bangladesh, 2010-07) Kamal, Sifat; Kamal, ShawkatBased on organizational ecology and other management theories, this paper aims at finding a relationship between organizational aging and firm survival during economic shocks. There is differing evidence on whether organizational aging has a positive or negative effect on firm survival. Thus looking at this issue, from an economic shock perspective, merits attention. After analyzing the existing literature, this study puts forward two propositions that might be used for further empirical research.listelement.badge.dso-type Item , Authorship in leading management journals: representation from Asian business schools(© 2010 Bangladesh Institute of Management, 2010-12) Kamal, Shawkat; Duc, Le Manch; Qi, ZhuThis study investigates the representation of works by authors of affiliated with Asian business schools in top management journals. The results did not indicate strong support for change in the representation of works by such scholars during the study period. Looking at the articles published in the top nine journals in the field of strategic management between the year 1999 and 2006, it was fond that scholars affiliated to Asian business schools having North American educational background were more productive compared to those having educational background were more productive compared to those having educational background from elsewhere. The findings also revealed that these scholars prefer to publish more in North America based journals when compared with European based journals; and having coauthors who are affiliated with North American business schools enhances the possibility of publication in top tier management journals.listelement.badge.dso-type Item , The economic impact of e-commerce(© 2005 BRAC University Journal, BRAC University, 2005) Hoq, Ziaul; Kamal, Md. Shawkat; Chowdhury, A H M Ehsanul HudaE-commerce has a significant impact on business costs and productivity. E-Commerce has a chance to be widely adopted due to its simple applications. Thus it has a large economic impact. It gives the opportunity for “boundary crossing” as new entrants, business models, and changes in technology erode the barriers that used to separate one industry from another. This increases competition and innovation, which are likely to boost overall economic efficiency.listelement.badge.dso-type Item , International acquisitions and the glabalization of firms from India(BRAC University, 2009-04-02) Delios, Andrew; Gaur, Ajai S.; Kamal, Shawkatlistelement.badge.dso-type Item , Greenfield vs acquisitions: determinants of choice in emerging economies(BRAC Business School, BRAC University, 2009) Kamal, ShawkatThis paper aims at finding the determinants of entry mode choices for MNCs that enter emerging economy nations as wholly owned subsidiaries. Existing literature suggests that this area of international business literature is relatively understudied and reasons for conducting more research exist. In this paper, I test three hypotheses using a logistic regression model. More specifically, this paper looks at the role of contributed assets; and organizational learning and experience in determining the choice between greenfield entry and acquisitions. The results suggest that host country experience and past entry experience has an impact on the current entry mode choice.
