Chittagong is the second largest city in Bangladesh. Its location near the Bay of Bengal has made it a major economic hub attracting commerce, business and industrial activities. However, despite its rich culture and nature, population growth and poor planning has caused serious social, infrastructure and environmental problems. The introduction of mixed-use facilities has been known to generate a positive impact on the development of a neighbourhood as facilities are decentralised in the city. Such complexes also generate income for the city corporation as well as provide job opportunities for locals. This serves the need for day-to-day amenities and facilities in one’s own neighbourhood along with a space for people to connect as a community. Therefore, the complex stands to serve as a one stop destination for day-to-day activities of residents of the neighbourhood, generate revenue for the city corporation as well as serve as an example to encourage further development in the area. This decentralisation of facilities makes both the city and neighbourhood more liveable than its present situation.en_US
