In recent years investment in urban areas have been increasing, but this is not the case for rural areas. This thesis studies the impact of private investment on rural areas of Bangladesh. It firstly gives the reader a theoretical insight on topics of development, and then later on highlights what other researchers have observed empirically. Afterwards, it reports existing literature of the two chosen sub-districts, and puts forward a case study presenting the favorable turn of events that have occurred in the sub-district receiving investment. From there, it assesses the socio-economic standing of each sub-district using five development indicators. Further, it develops a concept denoted as the concept of “holistic investment”, where a complete investment package has been detailed. This thesis concludes with the notion that private investment in rural areas can be profitable and instrumental at the same time.en_US
