Invasive lesions include ductal carcinoma (now called 'no special type' (NST)) as well as lobular carcinoma, both of which have preinvasive counterparts in the form of ductal carcinoma in situ along with lobular cancer in situ (or lobular neoplasia). DCIS normally has no outward signs or symptoms. Yet, a lump or discharge from the nipple might be observed in a few cases. Many classification systems have been created due to the microscopic heterogeneity of DCIS.
