This study aimed to examine generational differences in emotional reactivity across four cohorts in Bangladesh—Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z—using the Perth Emotional Reactivity Scale (PERS). The scale evaluates both positive and negative emotions across activation, intensity, and duration. Data were collected from 400 participants (100 from each generation) through bilingual in-person and online interviews. Statistical analysis revealed significant generational disparities. Results revealed that Generation Z scored highest in negative intensity and duration, indicating heightened emotional sensitivity. Baby Boomers exhibited the highest scores in general positive reactivity and duration, suggesting emotional stability and maturity. Generation X showed high activation but lower duration, indicating quick yet short-lived emotional responses. The study contributes to the global literature by extending the cross-cultural applicability of PERS to a non-Western, lower-middle-income context, offering critical insights for targeted mental health interventions and emotional regulation strategies across generations in Bangladesh.44 pagesenBRAC University theses are protected by copyright.
