Edge intelligence based realtime healthcare monitoring using NB-IoT

Citation

Abstract

The deployment of the Internet of Things (IoT) has been widespread. It is sure to bring improvements in medical care centers, better clinical convenience for patients and enhanced hospital management standards, even in remote areas where the need for real-time healthcare monitoring is very vital. We have proposed an architecture which connects the NB-IoT enabled smart monitoring devices of the hospital to the nearest Base Station (BS). Then, from there sending data to the edge to avoid the round trip directly to the Cloud to avoid the central data center mechanism to elevate security and optimality. The client nodes send the data to the edge where the main data processing takes place. This system will be based on the Narrowband- Internet of Things (NB-IoT) protocol because of its various excellencies. NB-IoT has greater connection capacity, broader coverage, better battery life, and relatively low cost. For these advantages, it is a better choice for real-time monitoring in remote areas for applications regarding medical purposes.
