Dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) transmission system with optical amplifiers in cascade

Citation

Abstract

Performance of a Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) transmission system with Optical Amplifiers in Cascade will be analyzed considering the effect of accumulated Amplifier’s Spontaneous Emission (ASE) noise. Analysis will be carried out to find the expression for signal to ASE noise ratio and will be extended to include to crosstalk due WDM Multiplexers/ Demultiplexers at each WDM node. Performance results in terms of signal to ASE noise ratio and signal to Crosstalk ratio and the system Bit Error Rate (BER) will be determined at a given bit rate. Optimum system design parameters will be determined to achieve a given BER of different transmission distance and number of WDM channels.
