Abstract

The aim of this thesis paper is to explore the effect of COVID-19 pandemic on English learning in post-pandemic situation of a Secondary School student preparation for S.S.C examination. In Bangladesh, the significance of Secondary School Certificate (S.S.C) Examination and its result is extreme in terms of determining the institutions to study and career. However, the pandemic situation created a drastic change in all sectors, especially, in education sectors. The sudden transition from traditional classrooms to online learning platforms changed the entire pattern of teaching, learning and evaluating process all over the world. For this reason, it is crucial to investigate how the secondary school students dealing with this situation and preparing for their board examination after re-opening of schools. Therefore, this single case study tends to explore the point of view of a secondary school student in this regard. A qualitative single case study approach have been followed all through the investigation. With the motive to discover the impact, both positive and negative, the information gathered through a semi-structured interview with a secondary school student of a renowned Bangla medium school, close observation, analysing his class notes (before, during and after pandemic situation) along with the related research articles and papers previously conducted on this subject. Finally, the findings of this study can be used by the English teachers and educators to understand how to teach their students and modify the curriculum according to their students’ convenience.
