Exploring English speaking practices in secondary classrooms: A comparative study between Bangla and English medium schools

Abstract

This study highlights the teaching and practising of English-speaking skills in secondary school classrooms. The study compares Bangla medium and English medium schools. The research involves types of speaking activities practised in the classroom, teachers' teaching techniques, and analysis of lesson plans and curriculum. The study's data collection methods are qualitative, involving classroom observation, teacher interviews, and document analysis. The study reveals how speaking skills are practised in two different educational settings in terms of students' participation, teachers' methods, and curriculum analysis. The study highlights the barriers faced by both teachers and students.
