Abstract

Image enhancement is the process of modification of digital images in order to make quality resultant images such that those can be subjected to further manipulation (like further image analysis). There are several ways to implement image enhancement techniques. In this paper, we have studied a number of image enhancement methods consisting of binarization techniques and hybridization of such techniques. After applying those methods on scanned Bangla document images, we have analyzed the reconstructed images. Then, we have gone for the quantitative analysis portion. To accomplish that, we have measured the recognition rate and then examined the improvement ratio of the unprocessed samples versus reconstructed images in terms of recognition rate. Our analysis critically emphasizes the requirement to apply image enhancement methods. This study will certainly help the researchers to select appropriate image enhancement method(s) for processing low quality Bangla printed document images.
