dc.description.abstractThis report is all about “Foreign Exchange operations of Standard bank Limited”. One of the largest businesses carried out by bank is foreign trading. Main transactions with overseas countries are respects of import; export and foreign remittance come under the preview of foreign exchange department of a Bank. International trade demands a flow of goods from seller to buyer and of payment from buyer to seller. In this case bank plays a vital role to bridge between the buyer and seller. The first chapter of the report contains origin, objective, methodology, scope, limitations of preparing the report and literature review. Second chapter of the report includes a general description about Standard bank limited to get a clear view about the bank. It contains overview, vision, mission, structure, hierarchy, services, etc of Standard bank limited. The third chapter of the report gives a clear overview of the SBL Uttara Model Town Branch. This chapter includes an overview of SBL UMT Branch, products and services of this branch, positional hierarchy of this branch, financial condition and profitability of this branch, strengths, and weaknesses of this branch and lastly my learning from the duties as an intern in that branch. The fourth chapter discuses what is foreign trade and foreign exchange business. It describes Banks role in foreign trade and exchange, laws and regulations regarding foreign exchange, benefits and problems of international trade, some Incoterms of foreign trade etc. The fifth chapter explains three main functions of Foreign Exchange department in a detailed way. It describes in detail about all the banking procedures involved in the import, export and foreign remittance transactions. It discusses about L/C and the operation of L/C in foreign import and export. The chapter six contains five years (2011-2015) comparative performance analysis of the foreign exchange business of Standard Bank Limited (import, export and foreign remittance). Chapter seven shows the CAMEL ratios of Standard Bank Limited. The last chapter (chapter 8) contains findings from the study, recommendations on the further development of the Bank and conclusion of the report.en_US
