Exploring teacher readiness for incorporating ICT in secondary level English classes of Bangladesh: a case study

This study attempts to identify the preparedness of English language teachers towards
incorporating ICT in English language teaching in the classroom. Being a developing
country, Bangladesh is far behind than the ideal ICT practices in language teaching
classrooms, though a number of initiatives have been taken by the Govt. as well as other
development agencies. To measure the level of English Language teachers. preparation
and their perception about integrating ICT in their classroom teaching, this research will
shed light on the teachers. present skill in computer operation and the infrastructural
condition of the classroom. For this, an in-depth analysis was conducted on the teachers
of Secondary level English classes of Bangladesh as a sample of a school with a
structured questionnaire and Focused Group Discussion (FGD). The available data will
be analyzed in the light of relevant literature and few recommendations will be made for
the school authority as well as the teachers. and to some extent the policy makers to bring
positive changes before introducing ICT based language teaching at the secondary level
education of Bangladesh.
