dc.description.abstract | Chevron is the largest producer of natural gas in Bangladesh, supplying approximately 50 percent of the country's natural gas consumption. Chevron has developed three natural gas fields in Bangladesh. The Jalalabad Field was discovered in 1989 and went into production in 1999. The Moulavi Bazar Field was discovered in 1999 and came on line in 2005. The largest producing field in Bangladesh, the Bibiyana Field, was discovered in 1998 and came on line in 2007. Chevron contributes to the economy of Bangladesh in several ways. It is the largest foreign investor and provides employment to about 3,000 Bangladeshis. In addition, Chevron was recognized as the highest corporate taxpayer in Bangladesh for the 2009–2010 fiscal year. The Supply Chain Management of oil and gas companies is a bit different from this typical scenario because their business operations do not follow the usual production system that starts from raw materials to finish products. The global vision of Supply Chain Management department of Chevron is “to deliver value and achieve a sustained competitive advantage for the global enterprise.” Being an intern in the Supply Chain Management department of Chevron Bangladesh gave an opportunity to see closely the activities of the company’s supply chain. The Contracts Team is responsible for the company’s contracts with numerous suppliers. It helped to understand the basic activities involved between the company and its suppliers. Cataloging various items; Audit activity for the Asia South Business Unit (ASBU) on “Suppliers Qualification”, the documents required for a contract to remain valid between supplier and company; the bidding process for initiating any new contract and its various implications were part of the responsibilities and taught me a lot. I believe that my report would give a through insight to all these responsibilities carried out during my tenure as an intern. With limited access to data due to confidentiality, I have tried to provide with as much detail as were possible about the works involving the basics of contracting. | en_US |
