Exploring verbal maneuvers: communication strategies in the discourse of Bangladeshi film actors and actresses
Abstract
The primary aim of this study was to investigate how differently Bangladeshi film actors and actresses communicate on public platform and how they violated Grice’s cooperative principle while interacting with the host on celebrity talk shows. The qualitative research method was used to collect and analyze the data. To conduct the research, six different celebrity talk shows, were collected from YouTube. The main reason why I was interested in this particular area was that people can come to know how our film actors and actresses interact on tv talk shows and how they violate maxims because of our social circumstances. People can realize how celebrities violate the maxims of Grice’s cooperative principle because of social constructed rules. A further point why I chose this subject to investigate was that people can understand how Asian people are bound by many socially constructed rules. In addition to that, people can know there is a tendency to maintain celebrity status and that’s why celebrities violate the maxims for maintaining their social status and identity.
