Bangladesh’s cultural identity is woven with the geography that has influenced and shaped the nation’s artistic soul, evident in the centuries-old tradition of folk arts and crafts. These vibrant expressions, reflecting the diverse communities of Bangladesh, are now facing a critical juncture. A lack of proper preservation, limited exposure, and unintentional neglect threaten the very essence of this rich heritage. The proposed project aims to revitalize the Bangladesh Folk Art and Craft Foundation complex in Sonargaon, prompted by the Cultural Ministry of Bangladesh. The primary objectives are to create a vibrant cultural area and to expand public facilities. An extension of the museum featuring flexible galleries, public spaces such as a food court and multipurpose hall, a folk school and accommodation possibilities are important components. In addition, the project aims to give traditional fairs (karu mela), a venue and revitalize local folk art through reviving the artisan’s workshops of Karupolli by creating a sustainable cultural-economy through tourism. The complex will be transformed into a welcoming cultural center that promotes and preserves Bangladesh's rich folk art legacy.en_US
