dc.description.abstract | Panam Nagar holds 400 years of history among its ruins of almost 50 houses, along a 5m wide and 600m long road. This street is probably the only place where such a large collection of historically significant structures can be found together. It is indeed upsetting that even with such great potential, Panam Nagar was only listed as a heritage site in 2003, the work of the archeology department of Bangladesh threatened the pure conservation and preservation of the place, rather tainted it more. Panam not only needs conservation, but also requires strategic and adaptive re-use of the structures from different periods. With injecting re-use of the place, it can be revived again, which will then bring in the real lesson of conservation, procurement and spreading of historical knowledge of 400 years among the people. | en_US |
