dc.description.abstract | Begum Rokeya's house, historically significant for its association with the renowned Bengali feminist and writer, Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain, stands as an emblematic representation of her sociocultural contributions and the intellectual milieu of her time. Located in the rural town of Pairabondo in Rangpur District, Bangladesh, this domicile encapsulates its era's architectural and contextual facets.
The house, a modest yet architecturally distinctive structure, is emblematic of the vernacular architectural styles prevalent in the region during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Constructed primarily with locally sourced materials such as brick, wood, and thatch, it exudes an aura of simplicity and functionality, which was characteristic of rural Bengali architecture of the period. The house's layout and design are evocative of the traditional rural Bangladeshi homestead, featuring a central courtyard flanked by various rooms and verandas, fostering a sense of communal living and familial interconnectedness. In conclusion, Begum Rokeya's house stands as a symbol of historical significance, embodying the architectural and contextual elements of its era and providing a window into the life and times of a pioneering feminist and writer. | en_US |
