Streptococcus pneumoniae (the pneumococcus) is a human pathogen that causes Iifc threatening, invasive disease such as pneumonia, bacteremia, meningitis with high morbidity and morbidity throughout the world; young children and the elderly are particularly susceptible. In developing countries as estimated five million children under the age of five years died each year from pneumonia, with S. pneumoniae bring the single most common causative agent. In Bangladesh it is a common cause of pneumonia and the second leading cause of meningitis with high mortality. The present study was carried out to demonstrate antigenic cross reactivity between the pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine and the Streptococcus pneumoniae 7F. Here the serotype 7F was used because it is the rank 1 serotype of S. pneumoniae in Bangladesh. In this present study SDS-PAGE was done for the detection of protein bands of the water extracted surface materials of S. pneumoniae 7F and pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine. To ensure whether the proteins were really immunogenic or not, they were subjected to Western blot analysis. In case of Western blot analysis, 41, 15 and 17 KDa proteins were found that ensure the antigenic cross reactivity between the vaccine and the whole cell extract of S. pneumoniae 7F, one of the prevalent serotypes in Bangladesh.en_US
