I decided to start my internship at The Daily Star because it seemed like the best place for me to apply what I've learned in school and pursue my interests. Starting on March 1, 2023, I interned at "The Daily Star" as a feature writer until May 31, 2023, as part of my undergraduate degree. During my twelve weeks here, I have seen several stages of the news making and feature writing processes. This internship gave me a front-row seat to The Daily Star's feature-writing and -editing process. I've contributed to the field in various ways, including writing features and working on other relevant projects. So, in this internship report, I'll be focusing on how I went about writing features.
This paper has three sections. The first chapter introduces the concept of The Daily Star and covers its background, ad pricing, sub-brand policies, and social media and digital marketing strategies. The second chapter provides a high-level overview of the Bangladeshi newspaper industry, including a SWOT analysis, promotional marketing, and the current state of digital public involvement with The Daily Star on social media. However, the primary rival to The Daily Star's data analysis continues to be the emphasis of this chapter. My internship at Daily Star provides the context for the third chapter's discussion of approach and implication. I have also made connections between my personal experience and several scholarly notions. My writing has improved, and I've gained fresh knowledge and perspective on pressing social problems thanks to this experience. This paper, in its entirety, is a retrospective of my time spent developing as a feature writer at The Daily Star.
